Inspiration
During the 19th century, a true golden age for wallpaper, floral designs experienced a spectacular boom. Technical advances in printing, combined with a renewed passion for nature, fostered the spread of abundant plant motifs: flowers, foliage, branches, and fruit filled interiors. These designs reflected both the romantic taste for idealized gardens and the decorative heritage of the previous century.
Oleanders perfectly illustrate this trend, with their fresh blooms of rustic, climbing varieties. This archive, a sleeping beauty awakened by our workshops, comes from the Frères Zürcher house. It adds its delicate touch to the many flowers that adorn our collections, reflecting our patient collection of emblematic motifs from textile history.
To decorate walls, floral wallpapers draw heavily on textiles: repetitive compositions, vegetal arabesques, stylized bouquets, or climbing branches. These wall decorations interact closely with curtains, drapes, and upholstery fabrics, contributing to an overall decorative harmony.
From the second half of the 19th century, floral wallpaper became a central element of interior decoration, testifying to its essential place in the art of living of the time.
