Inspiration
An incursion into millennia-old tradition and French heritage, this Ikat motif, from a silk archive acquired and restored by us, has its origins in a 6th-century craft technique straight from China. It can be found traveling between Indonesia and Mexico, where its patterns are at once exotic and modern, classic and ancestral, crossing cultures the world over.
This technique of dyeing yarns before weaving produces a blurred finish where pattern and color unite and vibrate together. Used by silk manufacturers in Lyon on silk taffetas, it is known in France as chiné à la branche, and was particularly well received at the court of Queen Marie-Antoinette.
A true symbol of traditional textile art, Ikat finds new colors here, adorning walls with its vibrant beauty.
