Les Hortensias 1895 – Origin – Fabric by the meter
Collection TraditionOn Velvet or Vosges canvas woven in France
Inspiration
This rare heritage treasure with hydrangeas from the hand of the famous Thierry-Mieg in Alsace has crossed the ages to arrive in our hands.
It was love at first sight for our workshops, which we have developed into fabrics and wallpapers.
Captivated by the obvious beauty of its light flowers, its delicate shades of original blues and by the very beautiful light emanating from the whole, we wanted to restore and enhance this gouache on paper from the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th century in order to restore its shine, worthy of a work of art of the finest quality.
This gouache displays with joy and subtlety a whole variation of this flower from Japan, symbol of the passing of time but also of lasting love. Harbinger of the rainy season in the Levant, the hydrangea motif was well known to the Alsatian manufacturer thanks to its close links with Japan.
In the 1850s, Japan was forced to open up to international trade and, on this occasion, sought to discover modern industrial techniques for textile manufacturing. from the Thierry-Mieg in Mulhouse, renowned worldwide for the quality of its patterns and prints.
It will then be the fruit of a long collaboration and a fruitful artistic exchange on both sides, contributing to the development of Japonisme in France and in Europe.

High resistance to abrasion, for durable, high-quality furnishing textiles
Our textile products are tested using the Martindale , which allows us to evaluate the abrasion resistance of a fabric over time. This is particularly useful for choosing a fabric that will be used often: armchair seats, sofa covers, cushions, etc. This test is expressed in number of revolutions (the Martindale machine rotates while rubbing the fabric), and for example, the French furniture standard is 10,000 Martindale revolutions for sofa coverings.
