The Roses of Lyon – Night
Botanical collection"The Roses of Lyon - Night" is an original creation © Le Presse Papier.

Inspiration
Inspired by English gardens and 18th-century floral designs, this collection, acquired and restored by us, features antique roses whose generous blooms with delicately crumpled petals evoke a spirit that is both romantic and subtly old-fashioned. They mingle with wildflowers against light backgrounds to create a gentle, bucolic atmosphere, or against deeper tones that add rhythm to the motif.
In the textile industry, rose design became a fundamental skill. During the Siècle des Lumières, the pursuit of ever more naturalistic representation led designers to meticulously observe plant forms. Since drawing from nature remained rare, many worked from models created by specialized painters, such as Edme-Jean-Baptiste Douet. Based in Lyon, he distinguished himself with his delicate floral still lifes, which became invaluable references for textile workshops.
Through these rose motifs, a whole artistic heritage is revealed: a meeting of botanical observation, refinement, and decorative stylization. From 19th-century English roses to contemporary creations, this floral vocabulary continues to embody a timeless, sensitive, and decorative elegance, in harmony with the refined and sophisticated world of our House.
