Inspiration
AesopGreek poet, 7th-century BC Jean de La Fontaine to write his animal fables. Although written in classical French, they remain timeless to this day, and each fable still teaches its own moral and invites reflection. For this new creation, with its drawings reminiscent of an old drypoint engraving, we opted for a composition of vignettes characteristic of the iconic Toile de Jouy fabric.
La Fontaine's fables have been illustrated many times, notably by Baptiste Oudry and Gustave Doré in the 18th century, or more recently by the excellent Benjamin Rabier and even Chagall …
Here you will find our vision for The Crow and the Fox, The Hare and the Tortoise, The Cicada and the Ant, The Wolf and the Lamb, The Oak and the Reed, The Lion and the Rat; an inexhaustible source of French wit, they will delight both young and old.
