Inspiration
Restored and colored by our careful care, this textile archive from the Alsatian factory Scheurer – Rott et fils dates from 1889.
It showcases rich and abundant peonies with dense foliage in full bloom: a breath of fresh air from the garden, carrying with it the delicacy of freshly opened petals.
At the origins of textile creation, inspired by botanical records, nature was transposed onto paper by textile designers. It adorned clothing fabrics as well as home furnishings. Floral motifs abounded, reflecting the enthusiasm for botany and exotic species that began in the 18th century.
Having arrived in France at the dawn of the 19th century, the exotic Peony was only later acclaimed for its decorative properties.
Here it finds a tribute to its beauty, displayed on several colored backgrounds that highlight the warm late summer light emanating from this wallpaper with its painterly touch and inspired composition.
