Red: The ambivalent color of life

Red was the first color mastered by humankind, dating back to the Paleolithic era with red ochre. In Antiquity, it was considered the quintessential color, evoking power and wealth. In the Middle Ages, it acquired a religious dimension, symbolizing the flames of Hell. Its romantic, even passionate, connotations, still relevant today, closely link it to the feeling of love, for which the red rose is the emblem. Finally, it was with the French Revolution that red gradually became a political color.

Amaranth, Bordeaux, Cherry, Strawberry, Garnet, Red Ochre, Purple, Burgundy Red, Poppy Red, Tomato Red… so many names evocative of its diverse facets. Red remains, above all, the symbol of life.
