This document from the collection of Charles Emile Steiner , head of the famous Alsatian factory of the same name, reveals the exotic beauty of indigo flowers on a dazzling background tinted with the famous “ Rouge Steiner ”. The specificity of this red, also called Rouge d'Andrinople, is due to the chemistry skills of the founder of the factory, Frédéric Steiner, initially based in England. The international reputation of its handkerchiefs, shawls, Indiennes and furnishing fabrics in “Steiner Red” was attested from the second half of the 19th century. We are very happy to be able to bring back to life this motif composed of fluid and undulating plants whose design is marked by Japonism which left its mark on French and Western artists in the 2nd half of the 19th century. A period of commercial opening from Japan to the West, the 19th century allowed the arrival of new objects in the visual landscape such as fans, screens, textiles... With its imaginary peonies and chrysanthemums, its rich and deep colors, this textile document of high quality, restored by our meticulous care, has been able to regain all its character linking Western and Eastern cultures. This textile will perfectly fit to dress walls (stretched fabric) or a screen and adorn beautiful seats or curtains.

High resistance to abrasion, for durable, high-quality furnishing textiles

Our textile products are tested using the Martindale , which allows us to evaluate the abrasion resistance of a fabric over time. This is particularly useful for choosing a fabric that will be used often: armchair seats, sofa covers, cushions, etc. This test is expressed in number of revolutions (the Martindale machine rotates while rubbing the fabric), and for example, the French furniture standard is 10,000 Martindale revolutions for sofa coverings.
