La Reine de Montparnasse – Origin

Inspiration
Our creation interprets, in the form of a contemporary trellis, one of the characteristic graphic motifs of Art Deco, against colorful backgrounds. The interlacing patterns evoke the connections forged between artists, ideas, and disciplines at that time. A woman appears in the background, embodying the very spirit of that era: Kiki de Montparnasse, free-spirited, whimsical, and resolutely modern, reflecting the Montparnasse of the Roaring Twenties.
In the 1920s, Montparnasse became the beating heart of Paris. More central and accessible than Montmartre, the district attracted artists from all over the world. Studios, academies, and cafés fostered a creative energy where painting, photography, literature, and poetry interacted in a spirit of freedom and sharing.
An iconic figure, Kiki de Montparnasse embodies all its audacity. Singer, painter, model, and muse, she moved in the same circles as Man Ray, Foujita, Modigliani, Soutine, and many other artists. A regular at cafés and grand brasseries, notably La Coupole, she became the face of a cosmopolitan, festive, and profoundly modern Montparnasse.
