Inspiration

An emblematic seaside resort on the "Côte fleurie" since the 19th century, a popular vacation spot for the Parisian bourgeoisie and nobility who then followed the English vogue for sea bathing, Honfleur is also the gathering place for landscape painters like Eugène Boudin and Camille Corot, as well as Claude Monet and Raoul Dufy. Inspired by the incomparable light brought by the proximity of the Manche and the Seine estuary, artists have continued to find privileged inspiration there. Baudelaire said: “My move to Honfleur has always been the dearest of my dreams”. It is both an outdated image of a bourgeois vacation in one of these Anglo-Norman style houses but also the call of nature and its beauties prized by the painters that we wanted to summon here through these entirely drawn with felt models, reminiscent of the floral density of English Arts and Crafts patterns.
