Caribbean wallpaper in a retro chic kitchen by Lalaklak

What if Don Draper settled in Lyon? It is with these words that Lalaklak begins the presentation of this beautiful interior decoration and furnishing project. A 50s-60s style, warm and colorful, in which Caribbean fits perfectly.

The owner of this 72m² apartment wanted to rent it out for long-term furnished rentals. Located near the Tête d'Or park in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon, it benefits from beautiful light and a pleasant layout. the property is mainly intended for business customers, alone or with family.

Claire, founder of Lalaklak, opts fora bold and vibrant decor, in a retro-chic style reminiscent of the visual world of the Mad Men series: " For a hotel or rental apartment, you can create a decor with a strong character, which will give the place personality without you having time to tire of it ." This choice translates into a range of bold colors and a beautiful selection of vintage furniture.

Modernize the kitchen: When wallpaper focuses attention

The challenge of this project? Modernizing the kitchen while keeping its somewhat dated cabinetry to stay within budget. To achieve this, Lalaklak chose to draw the eye away from the kitchen, introducing color and detail to the opposite wall. This is where the Caribbean wallpaper (from the Tropiques collection) comes in, bringing an exotic feel to the room, inviting travel and relaxation. Hesitating between two designer wallpapers collections Le Presse Papier, Claire finally made her choice: " Its white background, its beautiful color harmony, its vibrant tropical pattern " made it perfectly suited to the needs of the project.

Integrated into the upper part of the wall, it blends perfectly with the turquoise blue paint and the pretty wooden table. The checkered floor adds contrast and a playful touch to the whole: Welcome to Miami!

This is a beautiful example of wallpaper application, like other creations by Lalaklak: " I mainly use wallpaper on small surfaces or a single wall: It easily finds its place in alcoves, for example. Wallpaper allows me to bring contrast, a strong decorative element. I also appreciate its ease of application, which allows me to change the pattern after a while ."

About Lalaklak

Lalaklak is a young interior architecture and decoration agency, founded in Lyon by Claire Salais. An experienced graphic designer, she decided to move towards space and furniture design, and created Lalaklak in 2016 after specialized training.

Based in the famous Lyon silk district of Croix-Rousse, it was quite natural that she carried out her first work in apartments in Canuts. These former weavers' workshops/dwellings, now very sought after, housed the looms and the workers' families. This particularity gives them high ceilings, large windows and a mezzanine. Lalaklak intervenes in these spaces to modernize them, restructure them and take advantage of their undeniable charm.

As a member of theUFDI, Lalaklak pays particular attention to decoration and furnishings, whether selecting vintage pieces or designing bespoke furniture. Going against the grain of a sleek and uniform contemporary style, Lalaklak's approach emphasizes the mixing of styles, characterful furniture—in short, an eclectic harmony tailored to each project.
